Read the book:
The Soloist is the true story of how Steve Lopez becomes an unlikely advocate and friend to a mentally-ill, homeless man (Nathaniel Ayres) who was once a musical prodigy. Lopez endures disappointments and setbacks ... acknowledging Nathaniel has taught him about courage and humanity. With self-effacing humor, fast-paced yet elegant prose and unsparing honesty, Lopez tells an inspiring story of heartbreak and hope.
