"When I used to read it felt hard and like torture to read only a couple of sentences. We discovered that I needed vision therapy. I started doing vision therapy exercises every day — some with my mom and some on the computer. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was improving.
One night my dad was reading a story and then stopped reading the story. But I wanted to know more, so I picked up the book on my own and that night I found out that I could read chapters without even getting tired! I was so excited. Then I discovered a whole book series that I really liked and soon I was reading thick books all by myself!
Not long after that, Summer Reading started and I had never heard of it before. At first, I was hesitant to do it but then I found plenty of books that I was really enjoying reading, so I decided to go ahead and do it! I even won a reading medal.
Now, my final vision therapy appointment is this week and I can’t wait to show my medal to my eye doctor! I was stunned that I had such a great time reading this summer and I know I’ll keep on enjoying reading, book after book, for the rest of my life!”
