The series is made possible through generous memorial donations in the name of Jim Dixon
, who passed away in July, 2012. The Library received a total of $3,200.
Dixon worked with California Department of Fish and Game for 38 years, starting as a seasonal aide in Fisheries, becoming a Game Warden in 1966, and retiring as a Captain in 1996. Jim had a lifelong dedication to wildlife. After friends and family had donated $1600, Jim’s widow, Kristin Dixon, matched the donations with an additional $1600. The Library used the donations for two nature encyclopedias, and the remaining funds will be spent on family-oriented nature programs throughout 2013.
Program presentations will include the Sacramento Zoo
, Nor Cal Bats
, the UCD Raptor Center
, the North Delta Conservancy
, and many others. Most programs will feature live animals. The Stockton Astronomical Society
will hold one of its “star parties” as part of the lineup, bringing their telescopes and avid sky-watchers to town in July. It is only fitting that the Library present programs that provide an appreciation of the out-of-doors that Jim Dixon loved so much.
