Guests enjoyed treats and face-painting by the Happily Ever Laughter fairies during the grand reopening celebration of the South Natomas Library's
Kids Space on Saturday, May 11.
Speakers at the event included Randee Tavarez, president of the Friends of the South Natomas Library
; David Gordon of First 5 Sacramento
; City Councilmember Steve Cohn
; and State Assemblymember Roger Dickinson
Kid-friendly shades of blue, green and purple now welcome young people and their families to the new space, which features three zones designed for different age groups:
an Early Literacy Space for children up to 5 years old
a School-Age Zone for elementary kids
a Tween Space for preteens
Each area has age-appropriate learning tools, such as the Ladybug Mirror and Hickory Dickory Dock Clock for the under-5 set, and the nonfiction books and biographies to help students with their homework in the School-Age Zone. There are new books, graphic novels, and additional computers in the Tween Space.
The renovation project, which began in October, was made possible by the generosity of grants and donations from the Friends of the South Natomas Library
, First 5 Sacramento
, News 10
, and the office of Councilmember Steve Cohn
