Getting into college gets more difficult and stressful every year. But Sacramento Public Library can make the process a little easier by showing you what to expect and how to use the system to your advantage.

Dealing With College Application Stress
Applying to college is stressful, but you can make the process easier by being prepared. Learn how to:

  • Make a 12-month plan leading up to the application deadline;
  • Balance the demands of college applications, extracurricular activities, parental expectations, academic requirements;
  • Determine where you are likely to be accepted;
  • Actually enjoy your senior year.

College Applications, Part 1: The U.C. Application & Essay
Applying to the U.C. system is more difficult than ever and applicants need to shine. Putting your best foot forward is easy when you understand the application process and know all the tips and tricks. Professional college counselor Marilyn van Löben-Sels will walk participants through:

  • The secrets of the U.C. website;
  • Application questions and essay prompts;
  • Tips on writing an interesting and effective essay.

College Applications, Part 2: The Common App and Others
If you’re applying to schools outside the C.S.U. or U.C. system, chances are you will be using the Common Application. It is important for students to know about this online application because it is used by more than 500 colleges. Marilyn van Löben-Sels will:

  • Walk participants through the main application, essay writing and supplements;
  • Offer tips on common supplement questions and what colleges are looking for in your answers;
  • Outline effective strategies to stay on top of requirements and deadlines.
