Sacramento Public Library

From the Director: June 2014

Paws to Read at least five books this summer.

Summer is here and that means books, reading and fun at all 28 Sacramento Public Library branches. Please join us and Paws to Read!

Sacramento Public Library is dedicated to bringing the summer slide to a screeching halt. No one is too young or too old to be part of the fun of our more than 1,700 programs.

Remember these important numbers:

2: The average student loses two months of reading achievement during the summer. Summer learning loss is related to classroom achievement later in life, including whether or not a child finishes high school or continues on to college.

5: Reading just five books over the course of the summer can prevent learning loss. It’s also the minimum number of books that Summer Reading Program participants must read to receive that free book to keep.

40,000: Our goal for the number of people in our Summer Reading Program. Will you be one of them?

200,000: The number of books we want everyone to read this summer.

A Million: How much we want to thank the Sacramento Public Library Foundation, Friends of Sacramento Public Library and the Sacramento Kings for supporting Summer Reading.

Signing up for Summer Reading is easier than ever!
