That is Jessamyn Stanley’s mantra as a yogi who breaks all stereotypes. In her debut book, Every Body Yoga,
the self-professed “fat femme” tackles big topics — fat-shaming, body image and the media, and the tyranny of unattainable beauty standards.
Throughout Every Body Yoga,
Jessamyn shares her own emotional stories — a lifelong struggle with her weight, childhood dreams of becoming a beauty queen and reconciling her strong black heritage with the beauty ideals of a white-centric society. Each inspiring narrative informs a series of 10 yoga sequences that can energize the spirit, release fear and help you to chill out.
“I wrote this book for every fat person, every old person, and every exceptionally short person,” explains Jessamyn. “I wrote it for every person who has called themselves ugly and every person who can’t accept their beauty.”
