How Outlandish!

Diana Gabaldon Visit

Diana Gabaldon, bestselling author of the Outlander series, spent an evening with Sacramento Library patrons only three days after the release of the newest book in the series, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. It follows Gabaldon’s characters through revolutionary Philadelphia and onto the battlefields as Scottish highlander Jamie Fraser makes a dramatic return to nurse Claire Randall’s side. Prior to Diana Gabaldon's visit, our staff experts on the Outlander series discussed the books leading up to the newest book in the series during a live Google Hangout.

Outlander is a bestselling, award-winning book series by Diana Gabaldon. Part time-travel romance, part historical fiction, the story takes place in both the 18th and 20th centuries, primarily in Scotland and America.

The series follows the romantic journey of Claire, whose travel through time led her to marry Scottish Highlander, Jamie Fraser. The latest book in the series is expected to be published in fall 2013.

Sacramento Public Library’s "How Outlandish!" program series enlightened and entertained Outlander fans, as well as those interested in Scottish culture and history in general. Historians, scientists, language scholars, and musicians guided patrons through the Outlander adventure like never before.
