And, I invite everyone to a kick-off reception on Thursday, October 6, co-hosted by The Sacramento Bee and the Sacramento Public Library Foundation, when Sacramento Public Library will launch the One Book Sacramento month-long literary project.
Masumoto will be presented at 6 p.m. in the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria at the Central Library. Epitaph for a Peach is the October selection of the Bee Book Club. The evening’s author-in-conversation program, at which the public can meet the author, will be moderated by The Sacramento Bee senior writer Allen Pierleoni.
Epitaph for a Peach is an excellent choice by the One Book selection committee. The book’s themes, which run throughout the narrative about family, respect for the environment, care of the earth, and the value of work will have great appeal to local audiences of all ages.
This is a program that is meant to be fun. This is about neighbor meeting neighbor, reading and talking about the book, enjoying a variety of programs, and sharing ideas and experiences. It’s about children talking to their friends, parents, teachers, and others about the books they are reading and programs they attend, based on the themes from the book. We want everyone involved!
The variety of One Book Sacramento multicultural programs, offered throughout October, will help children discover, and adults rediscover, the magic of reading. Audiences will be encouraged to explore the five senses through myriad programs which will feature the visual and literary arts, storytelling, music, poetry, and more.
Be sure to visit the One Book Sacramento online book club to read sample chapters of the book, to post your comments, and more.

It truly takes the support of the community to present a program as ambitious as One Book Sacramento. Many thanks to our supporters who include The Sacramento Bee (project title sponsor), Sacramento Magazine, Wallrich Landi, National University, KVIE Public Television, California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, Bella Bru Cafes, Comstock magazine, Prosper Magazine, Sacramento Public Library Foundation, and many others.
