Information
Southgate Community Library opened at its present location one block south of Florin Mall in 1975. Just a few blocks from the Florin Road exit of Highway 99, RT buses run almost to our doorstep.
The branch serves an ethnically diverse population of more than 75,000 south county residents spread over 52 square miles. At 80,000 items, our collection is one of the largest among the community libraries.
Our collection includes a good representation of African-American fiction and non-fiction, and a good selection on Asian culture. We have a large collection in Vietnamese and receive titles on a rotating basis in Chinese, Spanish and Russian. We offer daily newspapers in Vietnamese and Chinese as well as several in English.
Southgate also maintains a strong collection of large print materials. The non-print collection includes audiocassettes, CDs and videos and the library provides free Internet access to the public.
Paperbacks, magazines, and older textbooks are sold year-round in our lobby by the Southgate Affiliate Friends of the Library.
