Carmichael Library Remodel
The 38-year-old Carmichael
Library will undergo major renovations beginning March 2005, including
a 5,905-square-foot expansion. The branch is closed for remodeling
and is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2006.
The
estimated $6.8 million project will be funded from the California Tobacco
Settlement Funds and the Sacramento County Library Fund.
When completed, the expanded 19,490-square-foot library branch will feature
seating for 110 customers, 34 public-access computer terminals, a new
community room to accommodate 125 people, a teen study space, an enlarged
reading area for young children, a special collections area, and new furnishings.
A portion of the exterior landscaping and parking lot will be enhanced.
In addition, several works of art will be installed in the facility, provided
by the Sacramento Metropolitan Art Commission¹s Art in Public Places
program.
The Sacramento Public Library Foundation has raised close to $175,000,
in private funds, according to Foundation Executive Director Joan Evans.
Of that amount, the Carmichael Affiliate Friends of the Sacramento Public
Library have pledged $25,000. For people interested in contributing to
the Carmichael building project, Evans pointed out there are a number
of levels for giving; many of the levels include naming opportunities.
Those interested should contact Evans at (916) 264-2990, or e-mail her
at jevans@saclibrary.org
