LET’S TAlk about: voting
This year’s presidential election will be the first in which Millennials and Baby Boomers have equal footing — an interesting dichotomy given the nature of how we talk about politics today.
Gone are the days when your politics and the beliefs that support them are stowed away, only to be glimpsed at in the voting booth. Today, engaging each other in discussion leads the way.
On Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, we hosted such a discussion to discuss the 17 measures
on the November general election ballot — the highest number seen on a ballot since the May 2000 primary election.
Officials from the California Legislative Analyst's Office
explained each measure, while Kim Nalder, founder of the Sacramento State University Project for an Informed Electorate
, provided information on ballot endorsements.
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Professor Nalder is the founding Director of the Project for an Informed Electorate at the Institute for Social Research at Sacramento State, and a recent visiting scholar at the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley. Nalder is also a board member for the Center for California Studies, and a two-time Field Institute Faculty Fellow. Her current and recent research is on misinformation, voter knowledge, term limits, the Tea Party, campaign advertising, news coverage of elections, California politics, and the culture wars.
LEGISLATIVE ANALYST'S OFFICE
The Legislative Analyst's Office has provided fiscal and policy advice to the Legislature for 75 years. It is known for its fiscal and programmatic expertise and nonpartisan analyses of the state budget.
The office serves as the "eyes and ears" for the Legislature to ensure that the executive branch is implementing legislative policy in a cost efficient and effective manner.
