It is a goal of the Sacramento Public Library "to ensure that residents of our diverse communities have access to high quality library services".
The Community Outreach Services Department provides leadership for the development, promotion and improvement of outreaching to residents of Sacramento County.

library services.
- The goal is to partner with private and public organizations to assess needs, plan and develop programs and promote library services in the community.
The Department continues to provide imaginative and accessible ways for people of all ages to discover, understand and appreciate the diverse communities: Activities include free performances, lectures, presentations, cultural series, tours, workshops and participating in community festivals.
The Community Outreach Services Department coordinates implementations of programs and activities within the Homebound Books-by-Mail, Literacy Services, Multicultural Services and Wonder wagon.
Homebound Books-by-Mail
Homebound Books-By-Mail is a free service for Sacramento patrons who are unable to use neighborhood libraries or bookmobiles because of physical, mental, or geographical limitations. Patrons are provided with materials chosen to meet their special need and interests.
To help make the Books-by-Mail program work for you, please...
- When returning
books,
reverse the address card (the card is already addressed and stamped
for return mail).
- Date due slips
are included with each book. The books are due one month from check
out. Call us if you need more time.
- Lost books: There is a minimum charge of $30 for each lost adult book. We do not charge fines for over due books. Please make an effort to return the books to your mail carrier by the due date.
- Requests are always welcome. We try our best to fill them quickly. There may be a wait if the book is new or is a best seller. To make a request, include a note with your returned books or call 916-575-3450 and leave a message with information about the title, author, or subject.
- To register, qualified participants need to fill out an application and mail it to Homebound Books-by-Mail.

Multicultural Services
The Multicultural Services Department seeks to meet the information and needs of our diverse community. Multicultural Services is developing collections in Chinese, Hmong, Persian, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese languages. There are also small collections of French, German and Italian languages at the Central Library.
Multicultural Services also participates in many community events like; TET Festival, Black History Month celebrations, Festival de la Familia, Juneteenth, Pacific Rim Street Fest, Persian Festival and Middle Eastern Festival.
