Future North Natomas Library ![]() “This City of Sacramento library, a joint-use facility among the Sacramento Public Library, Natomas Unified School District, and Los Rio Community College District, has been a few years in the making; and today the new building actually starts to become a reality,” stated Sacramento Public Library Director Anne Marie Gold to the groundbreaking audience. Expected to open in fall 2009, the 22,645-square-foot library will serve students at Inderkum High School and American River College’s Natomas Education Center, as well as community customers. The future branch will replace the current and smaller North Natomas Library, located in the Inderkum High School building, along New Market Drive. Once completed, the North Natomas branch will feature 120 public-access computer stations; a computer lab and classroom, as well as a mobile, wireless lab with notebook computers; and a 75-seat-capacity community meeting room. Its collection of books, periodicals, DVDs, and CDs will contain more than 100,000 items focused on community and student users. “The branch will also have two very special spaces, reflecting the Sacramento Public Library’s commitment to kids in our community: a dynamic teen space, featuring all those things they’ll love and which adults don’t; and the coolest kids’ space I’ve seen yet in any of our Sacramento city and county library branches. We may have to charge admission, as it’s so great!,” Gold exclaimed. The Art in Public Places committee has chosen the following artworks by local artists to be displayed at the new branch: Ray Gonzales, "Surfing the Stacks;" Joe Scarpa, "Arthur's of Our Own Destiny;” and James Piskoti, "Reading Is an Adventure." Funding for the $17.3 million North Natomas Library project is provided by a Proposition 14 State Bond Act Grant, City of Sacramento Developer Impact Fees, Natomas Unified School District, and Los Rios Community College District. ![]() |
