Future Valley Hi - North Laguna Library

  Representatives from the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation and the Sacramento Public Library are developing the Valley Hi - North Laguna Library and Shasta Park at the corner of Bruceville Road and the future extension of Cotton Lane.  The Executive Summary of the Valley Hi - North Laguna Site Utilization Study is completed. Ground breaking is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Formal remarks will be made by Heather Fargo, City of Sacramento Mayor; Bonnie Pannell, City of Sacramento Councilmember, District 8; Anne Marie Gold, Sacramento Public Library Director; Brandon Ida, Community Representative, Office of United States Senator Barbara Boxer from California; and Dr. L. Steven Winlock, Associate Superintendent, PreK-6 Education, Elk Grove Unified School District.

  The City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Public Library are committed to making their libraries green buildings that are beautiful, functional and high performing.  Valley Hi - North Laguna Library seeks Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

  The future 20,000-square-foot Valley Hi - North Laguna Library will feature such amenities as:
  • A browsing area with newly-released books, CDs, and DVDs
  • Separate children’s and teen reading areas
  • Fiction and non-fiction collection and reading areas
  • A magazine area
  • Public computers with Internet and word processing
  • A Friends of the Valley Hi-North Laguna Library sale area
  • A community meeting room which can accommodate as many as 100 people
  • Food court for refreshments and socializing
  • Two study/tutoring rooms and a special “quiet” reading room
  • Self-check out machines for library books and other materials
