SAT I full-length Practice Tests (and follow ups)

Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sept. 10, Oct. 1, Nov. 5 or Dec. 3 with follow-ups on Tuesdays 6 – 7 p.m.

Don’t try to “ace” this important test without preparation! Practice tests get you accustomed to pacing yourself over four hours. You also gain familiarity with all the directions so you won’t waste valuable time reading them during the actual test. This is a great diagnostic tool as well as a the perfect warm-up for exam day! Offered by Kaplan Education Testing Center.

Brainstorming College Application Essays

Wednesdays, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, Oct. 12, Nov. 2 and Nov.9

The best writing is rewriting! Start your essays early and you’ll have time to make them stand out from the crowd. Brainstorming and prewriting exercises in this workshop prepare you for good, solid first drafts and beyond. Limited to 10 per workshop. Instructor, Clare Payne, S/R college counselor. (Note: Nov. 2 focuses exclusively on UC essay writing).

UC/CSU Applications

Wednesday, 6 – 7:30, Sept. 21, Oct. 26

What is the difference between being eligible and being admitted to these schools? Course work, grades and test scores. Come to this workshop and discover what campuses might work for you. We’ll also spend time looking at how to complete the applications. Please bring a copy of the application (if you have it or can download one) AND a current 6-semester transcript from your high school.

Get the Most From Your College Visit and Interview

Tuesday, September 20, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and Sunday, September 25, from 2:00 PM to 3:30

You've determined what you're looking for in a college, and selected several that match your criteria.  Now it's time to see for yourself if it's everything you thought.  Learn what you should look for on your visit and what questions to ask.  Learn why an interview can be helpful in your final selection process.  This workshop will be presented by Schwab-Rosenhouse College and Career Counselor, Joanne Verdon.  Registration is required by telephoning the library at (916) 264-2920.
