There are 2.5 million small businesses in California, which employ 50% of the workforce and generate more than half of the state's gross domestic product. These businesses are crucial to the California's economy.
The Sacramento Public Library - Rancho Cordova Branch Library has received a grant from the California State Library to support the information needs of small businesses. A survey of the small business community indicated that the greatest need of small businesses is the ability to maintain relationships with their customers.
Over 80% of the respondents also saw the need for 24/7 information and reference services and seminars related to small businesses. The Sacramento Public Library has developed www.saclibrary.org/smallbiz website with a view to providing the type of information and services that small businesses find relevant.
