Library offers Lynda.com service for everything from photography to game development

Whether it’s a personal project, developing a professional skill or pure curiosity, the Library can help you learn and develop creative skills — for free.

The Library is offering online courses through Lynda.com so you can be the artist you’ve always wanted to be, start your own website or make your life easier with Excel.

Here’s a small sample of Lynda’s array of courses that you can access anywhere, anytime with your Library card:

1. Photography. Improve your photography skills for family photos or nature shots by learning the ins and outs of camera exposure. You can also learn how to take the best family photos — even with toddlers on stage — with a special course on how to photograph families.

2. Music. Take singing classes online and learn everything from physical exercises to the history of singing. There’s an entire series available for exceptionally eager learners.

3. 3D Printing. Learn about 3D printing from designing a 3D model to printing your design. Psst, the Library also offers 3D printer services for free.

4. Drawing. Learn the basics of how to draw the human figure with a figure drawing class. This course also offers worksheets and sample poses for you to practice with. For those who want to draw landscapes — worry not, there’s a course on that too (also with exercises and worksheets).

5. Blogging. Get started on that blog or website you’ve always wanted to create with a class on how to use WordPress. You can learn how to set up your website’s look, schedule your posts, use plugins and get readers.

6. Video. Make a home video or kickstart your video-making hobby with lessons on how to use iMovie.

7. Excel. Manage your finances or boost your resume by taking a class on how to use Excel. There are videos for older versions of Excel and a weekly series sharing tips and tricks to make working in Excel even easier.

8. Game development. Make your idea for a videogame into a fleshed-out plan with a series of lessons on game design.
