After months of planning, Sylvan Oaks Library in Citrus Heights will temporarily close on December 16 while it undergoes a refresh. The Library plans to reopen the location midsummer 2019.
When the Library reopens next year, patrons will find a newly upgraded space, including a nearly 400-square-foot multi-use addition. The space is intended to serve a variety of functions for maximum flexibility. Two new study rooms will also be added.

“Sylvan Oaks Library is an important place in the community — for young families, seniors and residents of all ages,” said Nina Biddle, Sacramento Public Library Facilities Manager. “We surveyed the community, and have taken care to incorporate their suggestions into this project.”

A series of modernizations will bring the branch up to code and into the 21st century. All the restrooms will now be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Another big change will be an enhancement of the children’s area. That space will integrate special sections for early learners, homework tutoring and STEM activities.
New flooring, lighting and furniture will help modernize the look and feel of the library. It also has several large glass window walls that will be replaced. Front entrance of Sylvan Oaks Library
One of the most impactful additions won’t come with the aesthetic changes to the library, but rather in its collection. The Library will receive about 12,000 new books, including a new large-print collection and more world languages materials to better serve the community.
“Our goal has been to re-create the Sylvan Oaks Library as a beautiful, welcoming and inspirational place for discovery and growth,” said Biddle. “We are looking forward to welcoming the community back to the library next July.”
Patrons who have holds with Sylvan Oaks Library as the pickup location can pick those up at North Highlands-Antelope Library during the refresh.

New flooring, lighting and furniture are among the aesthetic improvements that will be made to the branch. New fixtures will also be installed throughout.
Galt will receive a collection enhancement fund, adding $50,000 worth of books to its collection.
Galt Library is scheduled to reopen in early spring 2019.
