For many, the start of a new year is a time to reflect and resolve to make improvements in life. Some people make changes for many reasons and in lots of ways. For Sacramento Public Library, the new year brought about a big change: Rivkah Sass’, Library Director for over 12 years,
retirement.
Rivkah and I visited all our locations over the course of my first two weeks and met with many community members and Friends of the Library. I was able to see firsthand how our excellent, dedicated staff are serving their communities. For example, in less than two days we distributed nearly 40,000 at-home COVID-19 test kits from our library locations.
I lived in Sacramento until I was 9. Sacramento Public Library is where I was issued my first Library card and that started me on the path to be a librarian. So, for me being the Library Director and CEO of Sacramento Public Library is a homecoming. So much has changed in our region and at the Library over the years. And while I’ve (in the words of the song) “come right back where I started from” I am re-discovering the city of my youth and seeing how our Library can inspire our communities to discover, learn and grow with new perspective as an adult.
I look forward to meeting many of our patrons, supporters, and
Friends. I hope you’ll share with your family, friends, and neighbors all the great things the Library is doing.
