California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP) releases You Count Survey

Anonymous survey to count the number of youth and young adults in need of housing assistance
February 16, 2023

There is no simple answer to the question, "How many youth in California experience homelessness?" The answer depends on the source you consult...

Sacramento Public Library has partnered with the California State Library and the California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP) on the You Count Project survey. The anonymous survey aims to count the number of youth and young adults in need of housing assistance who may be missed by other sources.

About the California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP)
This project seeks to improve understanding of youth and young adults who experience homelessness and the issues they face. These include multi-generational housing insecurity, discrimination, family conflict and other reasons for being on the street, lack of shelter and educational opportunities, health and mental health needs, and the effect of interactions with the foster care and law enforcement agencies. The project highlights solutions for these youth by engaging them directly in research and policy discussions, and giving voice to their experiences and recommendations as well as those of researchers, practitioners, and policy experts.
