Ballard is a forensic DNA specialist. Her research laboratory at Sacramento State helps students transition into professional crime labs. 

Joan Renner

Renner is a crime expert who has been featured on more than 20 programs on the Investigation Discovery Channel. She wrote The First with the Latest!: Aggie Underwood, the Los Angeles Herald, and the Sordid Crimes of a City. 


Lloyd Billingsley
Billingsley wrote Sexual Terrorist: How the East Area Rapist Terrorized Sacramento During the 1970s; Exceptional Depravity: Dan Who Likes Dark and Double Murder in Davis, California about Daniel Marsh, a double murderer from Davis; Lethal Injections about Canadian serial-killer nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer; and Shotgun Weddings about double-murderer Colleen Harris of Placerville.  

William Burg
Burg has written seven books and approximately one hundred articles about Sacramento's history. His latest book, Wicked Sacramento, includes many stories of murder and suicide in Sacramento's wickedest neighborhood.

Paul Drexler
He is the author of Notorious San Francisco: True Tales of Crime, Passion and Murder. His column, "Notorious Crooks," appeared regularly in the San Francisco Examiner. He has appeared on "Deadly Women" as an expert on San Francisco murderesses. He also directs Crooks Tours of San Francisco, which offers walking crime tours of San Francisco. 

David Kulczyk
He is the author of six true-crime or odd-deaths books, including Death in California: The Bizarre, Freakish, and Just Curious Ways People Die in the Golden State; California's Fruits, Flakes and Nuts - True Tales of California Crazies, Crackpots and CreepsCalifornia's Deadliest Women: Dangerous Dames and Murderous Moms; and Forgotten Sacramento Murders 1940-1976. His work has also appeared on TruTV.
