Mildly Cozy Author Talks

Ever wondered how a hobby becomes a book?

Starting in August, we're hosting conversations with local author and outdoor enthusiast Ashley Shult Langdon at six library locations. Learn more about her journey to publishing her first book, Mildly Scenic.

What began during the pandemic as a way to keep her preschool-aged boys from climbing out the windows, soon turned into daily discoveries along the Lower American River. After a few years of exploring, a year of writing, and another in book design, this journey and the book has drawn the attention of local educators, organizations, and community members alike.

Ashley Shult Langdon never considered herself a writer. She's a traveler, a runner, an outdoorsy type, a trip leader, and a Mom. Raised in a family of travelers and teachers, she had the great fortune of inheriting the thirst for exploring the unknown. She spent a couple of high school years in Malaysia, a couple of college years in Costa Rica, and a lot of her twenties leading trips to remote areas overseas. There's a special appreciation she has for the mildly scenic daily adventure. The kind of place that delivers the thrill of the natural environment without the hours of travel and vacation time. A quick dip into nature. She has found this along the Lower American River.
