Prom Drive & Giveaway

Giving formalwear new life

Formal attire, including a long purple and blue dress on a mannequin, arranged between library book shelves. Is your old prom attire collecting dust in your closet? Donate your formal attire to the library’s annual Prom Drive.

Sacramento teens will be able to select and take home formalwear to keep during giveaway events in the spring. Prom can be pricey so let’s make sure everyone has a chance to shine on the dance floor.

Teens ages 13 - 19 are invited to find the perfect outfit for prom starting February 15. A few tips:
  • Wear under-clothing like sports bras, leotards, etc., as there is limited privacy to try on clothes
  • Please don’t wear makeup when trying on items
  • Adults are welcome to accompany shoppers, but only teens may take items home
Have Questions?
Do we have to bring the formal wear back to the library?

No. Teens are welcome to keep the items they select at Prom Drive giveaway events.

Can I try on formal wear during Prom Drive giveaway events?

Yes, however, privacy is limited. We ask that you wear under-clothing (undershirts, sports bras, leotards, etc.) that will make it easy for you to change. Do not wear makeup when trying on items. It can get on the clothes and we don't have a dry-cleaning budget.

Can parents choose from the library’s selection?

Caregivers are welcome to browse giveaway events at their teens’ discretion, but it is the library’s intention that the formalwear and accessories donated for the Prom Drive will selected and worn by youth. We strongly encourage teens to attend themselves.
