In 2021, Sacramento Public Library reached a record-breaking 3 million digital book checkouts. This milestone illustrates the continued growth and demand of library services including digital lending of ebooks and audiobooks. Sacramento Public Library is one of
20 public library systems worldwide that surpassed one million digital checkouts.
“We’ve experienced tremendous demand for ebooks and audiobooks over the past several years,” said Library Director and CEO Peter Coyl. “Readers love the convenience of having free access to thousands of materials on their device. You can take the Library wherever you go.”
Sacramento Public Library has been providing readers 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks for several years through the award-winning Libby app, the library reading app created by OverDrive. Reader interest and usage has grown every year. Sacramento Public Library first exceeded 2 million digital items in 2019.
Through apps like Libby by Overdrive, library cardholders can not only check out ebooks, audiobooks and magazines but also find free online classes in Libby’s Extras section to learn how to play musical instruments, decorate cakes, sew, and more.
Readers in Sacramento County just need a valid library card to access digital books from
the Library’s digital collection. Use any major device, including Apple
(R), Android™, Chromebook™ and Kindle
(R) (U.S. only) to
download the Libby app to get started borrowing ebooks and audiobooks anytime, anywhere.
