Choose an option that’s best for you. 

  • Option 1: Earn your high school equivalency by taking the GED or HiSET exam
  • Option 2: Earn an accredited diploma by completing coursework for Career Online High School.

OPTION 1: Study for the GED or HiSET exams to earn your high school equivalency certificate


GED and HiSET
Meet with a personal tutor once a week to help you prepare for the GED or HiSET exam series.

To sign up for tutoring, enroll as a learner in our Adult Literacy program using this link.

Test Prep

Study independently for the GED or HiSET exam series with online study guides and practice exams, or use these resources in addition to receiving tutoring.

 

OPTION 2: Complete coursework for the Career Online High School program to earn an accredited diploma. 


Career Online High School (COHS)
Earn an accredited high school diploma through a flexible, supportive, entirely online program while gaining real-world career training. Free enrollment is sponsored by Sacramento Public Library and California State Library.

Who can apply for the Library's GED program?

Sacramento County residents 18 years old and over, able to speak English and who can commit to being in the program for a minimum of 6 months, meeting once a week may apply to this program.

Who can apply for the Career Online High School Program?

Anyone 19 and over who is a Sacramento County resident and has a Sacramento Public Library card in good standing may apply to the COHS program. To find out more information, please contact us using the form on this page.

Is the COHS program accredited?

Yes, the Career Online High School program is accredited through as an online school district by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, and delivers fully accredited high school diplomas at the completion of its program.
