Be a part of the conversation with Sacramento Poet Laureate Andru Defeye who will share about his role in the movement to bring poetry, art, and music to Sacramento youth. Whether sharing stages with legendary beat poets or your favorite Hip Hop emcees, Andru Defeye’s unorthodox writing and performance style has made him a fixture behind microphones around the country. 2020 saw the release of his critically acclaimed Frequency album followed shortly after by his crowning as the youngest Poet Laureate in California capitol history. From Sacramento to Staten Island and SXSW, Andru Defeye served as the Director of Communications for Sol Collective from 2009-2020. In 2014 Defeye founded Zero Forbidden Goals, a support system for creatives dedicated to innovating arts equity, experiences, and education. Register for Zoom meeting or watch live on YouTube
Art in the Streets and Books for Youth with Robert Liu Trujillo (November 20 at 2 p.m.)

Author, artist, and activist Robert Liu-Trujillo will share all about his career and how community art can heal and unite. Robert Liu-Trujillo is a life long Bay Area resident. Born in Oakland, California, he’s the child of student activists who watched lots of science fiction and took him to many demonstrations. Always drawing, Rob grew up to be an artist, falling in love with graffiti, fine art, illustration, murals, and children’s books. Through storytelling he’s been able to scratch the surface of so many untold stories. Rob is the author and illustrator of Furqan’s First Flat Top, Illustrator of Alejandra Fights Back, and is a co-founder of the Trust Your Struggle Collective. Social Media for Change: Kimmy Gudino of Brown Issues (Date TBD)

Join us for a talk with South Sacramento’s Kimmy Gudino of Brown Issues who will share about her local and national work, her process for creating engaging social media content and more. Kimmy grew up in South Sacramento and in high school she helped advance the #Health4All campaign at the local and statewide level through peer-to-peer education, storytelling, marches and protests. Kimberly continued her advocacy in college with a special focus on digital organizing to help combat problematic narratives that were, in part, fueling divisions, hate crimes and internalized social stigma. Today Kimmy is an adviser at Rosa Parks K-8, introducing junior high school-aged youth to health justice campaigns and tending to the social emotional needs of young people and upcoming community champions.
